Southern Division
Governor 2011- 2012
Greetings to all clubs and members of Southern Division!
Southern Division is a collection of 31 Toastmasters
clubs (with more on the way!) from Southern Sydney, the Illawarra
and the South Coast in New South Wales, Australia.
These clubs are sorted into the following six Areas,
based on geographical location - each of which has its own Area
Governor:
- Area 9 and Area 39 (St George)
- Area 2 and Area 42 (Sutherland Shire and
Helensburgh)
- Area 3 (Wollongong)
- Area 30 (South Coast)
What is a Division?
The Division level in Toastmasters represents the
third tier of the organisation, following on from club level and
Area level. Division Governors ensure Area Governors have the
resources to monitor and assist clubs in achieving their goals, as
well as running Divisional contests for the annual Humorous Speech,
Table Topics, Evaluation, and International Speech Contests. Anyone
who makes it to a Divisional contest has already had to win at club
and then Area levels, so all Divisional contestants have done well
to make it as far as they do!
Southern Division Contests
If anyone from your club makes it through to Division
level in a contest, you owe them your support by coming along to the
Division contest. Division contests are usually the first contest
round in which each contestant is using a microphone and speaking to
an audience of 100+ people, so this is where the competition really
starts to get serious! Division contests also feature a 2-course
meal for attendees, and opportunities for networking with other
Toastmasters from far and wide. I encourage everyone to come along
to the next Southern Division contest - especially if you've never
been to one before!
Stay
tuned for details of the 2011-12 Southern Division contests, these
being:
Sat 24th Sept: Humorous Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest Sun 25th March: Evaluation Contest and International Speech Contest
Your Southern Division Governor
My own personal goals for the year will be to:
Have visited at least one club in each of the Areas
of Southern Division by the 15th August 2011 (to get a feel for the
different club cultures of each Area)
Attend all functions of Divisional significance during the year (club Anniversary meetings, new club Charter events, and other special functions in support of District or International events) (Most importantly, and with YOUR help) Achieve President's Distinguished Division status for the fourth year running! On this last point, YOU can help us become a President's Distinguished Division by helping your club become a Distinguished Club. In other words: - Achieving your next educational award this year, and ensuring your fellow members do the same - Completing your Competent Leader manual this year (if not yet completed), and ensuring your fellow members do the same - Achieving your next Leadership award, if you have already achieved your CL - Encouraging more people to join your club, and creating a quality club environment so people WANT to join - (If you are a Club Officer) - attend Club Officer Training in Jul-Aug and Dec-Feb - (If you are a Club Officer) - ensure your club submits Dues Renewals (September & March) on time, and submits the list of Club Officers for next year on time. I look forward to a great year as Southern Division Governor, and I hope to see you around the Toastmasters scene!
Andrew Ogden
